WAKE FOREST JOURNEYS TO MAUI
Wake is making its first appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational
The Deacs open the tournament against No. 14 Indiana, their first of three games at the tournament
Maui Invitational chairman Dave Odom coached Wake Forest for 12 seasons, posting a 240-132 record and leading the Deacs to two ACC titles
Head coach Danny Manning (1987) and assistant coach Brett Ballard (2001) both played in the Maui Invitational during their careers at Kansas
ALOHA DEACS
Wake Forest is making its first trip to Hawaii since competing in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu during the 1999-00 season
The Deacons are 2-4 all-time on the islands, having gone 1-2 in both their appearances in the Rainbow Classic, in 1985-86 and 1999-00
SERIES HISTORY
Wake Forest has won both previous meetings with Indiana, both in Winston-Salem as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge
The Deacs downed the Hoosiers 100-67 in 2003-04 and 83-58 in 2008-09
AGAINST RANKED FOES
Against Indiana, Wake Forest will look for its first ranked win since an 82-72 victory over No. 4 Duke on March 5, 2014 in Winston-Salem
Last year the Deacs were 0-6 against ranked opponents, but three of those losses were by single digits to top-10 squads
LAST TIME OUT
The Deacons suffered their first loss of the season, falling at home to Richmond 91-82 on Wednesday night
Wake Forest shot a season-high 57.1% from floor and had a +16 rebounding advantage, but were plagued by 20 turnovers
Bryant Crawford (21 pts) had his second straight 20-point game
Dinos Mitoglou (14 pts, 11 rebs) and Devin Thomas (12 pts, 10 rebs) each posted double-doubles
DEACS DOMINATE THE BOARDS
The Deacons have had three strong rebounding games to start the season and head to Maui with a +17.4 rebounding advantage this season
Wake Forest has opened the season with three consecutive games of at least a +10 rebound advantage for the first time since the 2008-09 season
Wake Forest had 59 rebounds vs. UMBC, its most in a game since 2010, and out-rebounded the Retrievers 59-36
The Deacons had 24 offensive rebounds against UMBC, tied for 10th-most in school history, and had a 25-7 edge in second chance points
Against UMBC, two players had at least 15 rebounds (Devin Thomas -17, Dinos Mitoglou - 16) in a game for the first time since Nov. 18, 2005 (Trent Strickland and Kyle Visser each with 16 rebounds vs. Texas Tech)
NEWCOMERS MAKING THEIR MARK
Freshman guard Bryant Crawford is averaging 17.0 points per game and has scored 21 points in each of the past two contests
He is the first Deacon freshman to have two 20-point games among his first three collegiate games since Rodney Rogers in 1990-91
Crawford is the first Wake freshman with consecutive 20-point games since Travis McKie in 2010-11
Freshman forward John Collins is averaging 10.3 points per game in 11.7 minutes per game, scoring in double figures twice, and leading the team in field goal percentage at 61.1%
Freshman center Doral Moore is averaging 3.3 points per game and scored six points in the win at Bucknell
THOMAS CRASHES THE BOARDS
Devin Thomas is the ACC's active leader in career rebounds (804) and career double-doubles (24)
He is the second-leading returning rebounder in the conference after averaging 8.8 boards last season
With 804 career rebounds, he currently ranks 12th in school history
If Thomas leads the team in rebounding this season, he would join Tim Duncan, Rod Griffin and Dickie Hemric as the only Deacons to lead the squad in rebounding for four consecutive seasons
UP NEXT
The Demon Deacons will meet either St. John's or Vanderbilt in their second game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational
Wake Forest hasn't met the Red Storm since 2002-03 and hasn't played the Commodores since 2007-08
