WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Former Wake Forest men's tennis standout Noah Rubin has won the USTA Pro Circuit Australian Open Wild Card Challenge, meaning he has earned one of the wild card spots in January's Australian Open.
Rubin won the challenge with 80 points, all accumulated thanks to his win in the Charlottesville Challenger. The victory back on Nov. 8 marked his first professional title to date after turning pro in June following his outstanding freshman season at Wake Forest in 2015.
Currently ranked No. 339 in the world, this will be Rubin's second Grand Slam appearance. Previously, he earned a wild card into the 2014 US Open as the USTA Boy's 18s Singles champion. Prior to playing at Wake Forest, Rubin also won the 2014 Wimbledon junior title, helping set up the first all-American boys' singles final at Wimbledon since 1977 with Stefan Kozlov.
Rubin finished 25 points ahead of Frances Tiafoe and 32 points in front of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul. Rubin beat Paul in Charlottesville final.
The 2016 Australian Open in Melbourne will be held from January 18 through January 31.
