Deacs Open Annual Wake Forest Invitational Friday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's tennis team opened play in the annual Wake Forest Invitational at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Friday, posting a 5-5 mark in singles play with a perfect 3-0 record in doubles.
In the A2 Singles bracket, both No. 2-seed Christian Seraphim and Maksim Kan picked up wins in the Round of 16 while Seraphim earned a second win in the quarterfinals to reach the draw's semifinals. Seraphim topped Janken Thoen of Radford 6-3, 6-2 and beat Connor Thompson of UNCG 6-3, 6-1 in the quarters. Kan came out victorious 6-2, 6-1 over Kasey Countee of East Carolina before dropping a tough three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Antonio Cembellin of Indiana.
Playing in the B1 Singles draw, Anthony Delcore earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Benedikt Henning of Norfolk State in the Round of 16 before falling to Thomas Pecor of Navy 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
In A1 Doubles, the top-seeded duo of Bogaerts and Kan posted an 8-3 victory over Felipe Jaworski and Jack MacFarlane of Georgia State 8-3 while No. 1-seed Seraphim and Delcore earned an 8-2 win over Michiel Meekers and Jose Moreno Manzano of Radford in A2 Doubles. Also in A2 Doubles, second-seeded Keivon Tabrizi joined Bloom on the way to an 8-5 win over Henning and Antonio Pejic of Norfolk State.
The Demon Deacons continue the tournament on Saturday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. Rainy weather is in the forecast for the Winston-Salem area, so a majority of the tournament could be forced indoors to the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center for the day.
