Ross Atkins Tabbed as Blue Jays' General Manager

TORONTO – Ross Atkins, a former Wake Forest baseball student-athlete, was hired by the Toronto Blue Jays as their general manager and vice president of baseball operations on Friday.
Atkins spent the previous 15 seasons with the Cleveland Indians, rising up the organization to vice president of player personnel. He previously ran the farm system for seven years, was the director of Latin American operations for three years, and the director of player development before that.
The Indians drafted Atkins out of Wake Forest in the 38th round of the 1995 draft, and he compiled a 37-32 record and 4.13 ERA in five minor-league seasons.
In four seasons at Wake Forest, Atkins compiled a 21-19 record and 4.67 ERA, posting a career-best 10 victories and 91 strikeouts his senior campaign.
There are currently 13 former Demon Deacons working in baseball as coaches, scouts and administrators, and 11 more playing professionally.
