Hola from Guatemala. Thursday morning we woke up and traveled in our VW bus to Panajachel. We checked into our cottage style hotel and immediately hit the pool. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sun poolside, while enjoying authentic burritos.
Afterwards, we enjoyed hours of zip-lining over the trees and scenery of the city. Overall, it was an incredible experience. Jenai conquered her fear of heights, but I, however, acquired new ones...mostly of stopping at the end of the zip-line.
Later that night, we enjoyed dinner at a local tiki restaurant overlooking the sunset and the lake. We ate our Guatemalan dinner, while listening and dancing to live music. After dinner, we went on an ice cream hunt, and after several unsuccessful attempts, we eventually found some at a local store. The new city made for a great day!

On our final full day in Guatemala, we decided to explore some local Mayan villages on Lake Atitlan. People were not exaggerating when they said it was the most beautiful lake in the world.
We took two small boats to cross the lake and arrived at the first village. Markets of colorful fabrics covered the streets. We finally arrived at a library that the BFB foundation also supports. When I say library, I really mean an open air basketball court with arts and crafts, books, and cards in one corner.
The local children taught us some of their weaving skills, and we were able to spend some time playing cards and drawing with them. We listened to the history of the library and learned how they provide schooling for the children.
We then visited a fabric shop and observed the process of making clothing and other materials from cotton. It was incredible how detailed the process was and the intricate work that goes in to making one product.
The next village was similar to the previous one, and we used the remainder of our time shopping and eating. Between meeting the Mayan natives, exploring the villages in the area, and being able to enjoy the beauty of Lake Atitlan, it might have been my favorite day.
A huge thank you to BFB Foundation for making this week a life-changing experience!
