Hamby Selected No. 6 at 2015 WNBA Draft

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Dearica Hamby became the first Demon Deacon ever selected in the WNBA Draft when she was taken with the No. 6 pick by the San Antonio Stars on Thursday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Hamby is the first Demon Deacon ever selected in the WNBA Draft. The 6-3 forward rewrote the Wake Forest record book and became the program's all-time leading scorer (1,801 points) and rebounder (1,021 rebounds). She was also the first Deacon to be named first team All-ACC twice in her career. She earned All-America honorable mention honors from both the WBCA and Associated Press this season. She was also a Wade Trophy Finalist and a WBCA All-Region selection.
"What an amazing night for Dearica and our Wake Forest women's basketball program," said head coach Jen Hoover. "Dearica is the most versatile player I have ever coached. I am confident she can make an impact in the WNBA on both sides of the floor because of her athleticism, instincts and motor. I am excited to follow her progress in San Antonio and can't wait to see what the future holds for her."
The Stars were founded before the WNBA's inaugural season of 1997 and relocated to San Antonio in 2003. They have made the playoffs in seven of their 12 seasons in San Antonio. The Stars lost 2-0 to Minnesota in the 2014 Western Conference semifinals and finished the season with a 16-18 record. The Stars will tip-off the preseason against the Shock on Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
