Wake Forest Upended by #63 Boston College

WINSTON-SALEM - Kimmy Guerin and Karen Forman each notched singles victories in straight sets, but the Wake Forest women's tennis team fell 5-2 on Sunday to No. 63 Boston College at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Guerin took advantage of mistakes all afternoon at No. 1 singles against Jessica Wacnik, the 87th-ranked player in the country, in breezing to a 6-2, 6-2 win. Guerin got her day started by easing to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Kasey Gardiner over Wacnik and Lexi Borr.
At No. 6 singles, Forman played a tight match with BC's Wan-Yi Sweeting, but ultimately came away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Forman's win came seconds after Boston College had clinched the match after Assiya Dair, the No. 115 player in the nation, topped Samantha Asch in a long 6-2, 6-3 match on No. 3.
Though unable to pull out the victory, Luisa Fernandez came back in the second set to force a third-set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (6).
To start the day, Wake Forest and Boston College battled back and forth after Guerin and Gardiner pulled the Demon Deacons halfway to the doubles point. On No. 2, Vasilyev and Emily Safron came away with an 8-7 (3) win over Xue Zhang and Andrea Retolaza Andrade. Sweeting and Dair then clinched the point for the Eagles with an 8-7 (4) win on No. 3 over Fernandez and Courtney Meredith.
The Demon Deacons return to action Saturday, April 11, for the third match of a four-match homestand against Syracuse. Action at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex is set for 12 p.m.
