WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball coach Ken Murczek announced the signing of three student-athletes on Friday. Joining the Demon Deacons for the 2015 season will be Hailey McFadden of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Katie Moore of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Rachel Burau of Wheaton, Illinois.
"We are thrilled to have three outstanding young ladies join the Wake Forest volleyball program this fall," Murczek said. "All three players are passionate about trying to help us reach our program goals and are extremely high-character individuals that love to train and play the game. Each player brings a different skill set to the table, but all of them will compete for playing time immediately. Our staff is looking forward to the three of them interacting with the rest of the team this summer and getting ready to hit the ground running come preseason in August."
McFadden, who attended Wake Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina, stands 5-foot-7 and played both outside hitter and libero for the Bulldogs and Triangle Volleyball Club Black, respectively. Named Wake Christian's Most Valuable Player twice in her career, McFadden helped the Bulldogs to the TISAC conference championship and was named TISAC Player of the Year last year as a senior. A team captain as a sophomore, junior and senior, she broke the MaxPreps record for kills in a single season while breaking her own school records for kills and digs in a single season as a senior. After her senior campaign, McFadden was recognized by The Raleigh Sports Club for her outstanding academic and athletic achievement. With her club team, McFadden earned Defensive Dandy honors from PrepVolleyball.com in 2012, 2013 and 2014 while also being named to the Top 150 Senior Ace list. McFadden comes from a long line of athletes in the family, as her father and uncle both dove at NC State and Penn State, respectively, while another uncle played football at Central Michigan and a cousin rowed at Dartmouth. To top the list, though, her great grandfather, Charles Anderson, won a national championship in boxing at Penn State.
Moore, who comes to Winston-Salem out of Clearwater Central Catholic in Florida, is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker who was named Pinellas County Player of the Year and an All-Pinellas Country first-team member in her final year with the Marauders. During her fantastic senior year, Moore helped Clearwater Central Catholic to the 3A State Championship while helping the team to regional championships each of her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. In all four years at Clearwater Central Catholic, Moore helped the Marauders to the district championship. During her sophomore campaign, Moore also earned the Dairy Farmers Player of the Year while checking in as the top-ranked blocker in the state of Florida. Outside of high school action, Moore played five years with Pinellas Heat Elite.
Burau comes to wake Forest out of Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, Illinois. A 5-foot-10 setter, Burau served as a team captain as a junior and senior while posting the best hitting percentage in school history as a senior at .567 percent. Finishing her career with the third-most assists in Wheaton Warrenville South history, she was named the team's Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior while being named to the Chicago Sun-Times' list of the top 50 volleyball players in the Chicago area as a senior. In three years of varsity volleyball, Burau earned All-Dupage Valley Conference honors as a junior and senior while earning honorable mention as a sophomore. A member of Sports Performance Volleyball Club, Burau served as a team captain three of her four years with the club while helping the squad to a fifth-place finish at the AAU Nationals with the 16s. After her senior season, Burau was ranked No. 82 in PrepVolleyball.com's ranking of the top seniors in the class of 2015.
