SKILLMAN, N.J. - Noah Rubin of the 12th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team has been named National Rookie of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday.
Rubin, who earned ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year last week, has now earned the two ITA awards to go with being named ACC Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season for the first time in conference history while picking up ACC Player of the Week four times during the year, including three straight times to close the season.
The freshman has posted a mark of 21-3 this year with an impressive 13-3 record against nationally-ranked opponents, including wins over three top-10 opponents in straight sets against Virginia's then-No. 2 Ryan Shane, Notre Dame's then-No. 9 Quentin Monaghan and Louisville's then-No. 1 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer. Rubin has come out victorious in each of his last 12 matches with his last loss coming to Duke's Nicholas Alvarez on March 22. In doubles, Rubin has posted a 16-6 record partnering primarily with Jon Ho at No. 2 doubles. With Ho, the two are 15-6 on the season. Overall, Rubin is 37-9 between singles and doubles, which is good for an .804 winning percentage.
Rubin and three other members of the men's tennis team - Romain Bogaerts, Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim - will start their NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship runs this week with Rubin set to take on No. 26 Tom Fawcett of Stanford on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. CT) in the first round. With a win, the freshman would move on to the second round for a match against No. 43 Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech or No. 50 Chris Diaz of Ohio State.
