WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest safety Ryan Janvion is one of 80 players named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Janvion, a 5-11, 190-pound redshirt junior from Pembroke Pines, Fla. (Dade Christian), has been a two-year starter for the Demon Deacons. A co-captain for the second consecutive year, Janvion has amassed 210 career tackles and is nearly halfway to the school record of 460 after just two seasons.
An Academic All-America candidate, Janvion has been heavily involved in community service initiatives. He has volunteered with Project H.O.P.E, DESK, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He is a board member of Santa's Helper, a United Way volunteer, a Student-Athlete Career Night volunteer and a team leader in Athletes in Action.
Janvion was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District team in 2014 and has been named to the ACC All-Academic team in each of the past two seasons.
