WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis head coach Tony Bresky announced his teams 2015-16 schedule on Wednesday, which includes 14 matchups against teams that competed in last year's NCAA Championship.
The Deacs open the spring slate on January 16 with a doubleheader against North Florida and East Tennessee State. Other nonconference home matches include The Citadel, South Carolina, Texas, Texas Tech, Norfolk State and Tennessee Tech. Scheduled nonconference road contests will come against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Tennessee. All three teams the Deacs have scheduled road contests against were part of the NCAA Championship a season ago. Oklahoma reached the national championship match but fell to Virginia.
The spring schedule also includes the ITA Kickoff Weekend from Jan. 23-24 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The Deacs will take on Auburn on Jan. 23 while Wake Forest will also host Tennessee and Cal Poly immediately following the contest. The two winners on Saturday will compete Sunday, Jan. 24, while the other two teams compete in the consolation match. The team that wins both matches throughout the weekend earns one of 16 spots in the ITA Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia, from Feb. 12-15, set to be hosted by Virginia.
Looking to build on a 9-3 season in ACC play last year, Wake Forest is set to host conference matches against Georgia Tech, NC State, Boston College, Notre Dame, Clemson and Duke. The Deacs will go on the road in ACC action to battle Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia and Louisville before the conference converges on Cary, North Carolina, from April 21-24 for the ACC Championships.
The upcoming fall schedule has the Demon Deacons sending players to 10 tournaments. Opening with the Cary Challenger from Sept. 11-13, Romain Bogaerts will then participate in the Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, California. The 2015 fall season is the first year of competition for the Masters and the first national championship of the year for college tennis.
Members of the team are also scheduled to participate at UVa Ranked+1, Duke Fab Four, ITA All-American Championships, ITA Carolina Regionals and the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships. This season's Wake Forest Invitational will be held from Nov. 6-8 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
The Demon Deacons only lost one player from the 2014-15 team in Noah Rubin, who elected to turn pro following his first year with Wake Forest. Though losing its No. 1 singles player from a season ago, the Deacs return every player that played Nos. 2-6 singles as they look to improve on the 24-8 season that set the school record for most wins in a single season.
