WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's soccer opened 2015 with an exclamation mark, shutting out Georgia by a 4-0 margin in the regular-season opener at Spry Stadium on Sunday evening.
Eight Demon Deacons (1-0) found their way into the scoresheet with either a goal or assist, as Wake Forest knocked off the Bulldogs (0-1-1), an NCAA Tournament qualifier a year ago.
After scoring the game-winner in the exhibition win over Ohio State, Katie Dry again scored what proved to be the game-winner, this time in the 13th minute. She perfectly executed a give-and-go with Maddie Huster, beating the keeper one-on-one to make it 1-0.
Ally Haran made it 2-0 seven minutes later, hitting a one-timer out of the air on a Sarah Teegarden free kick.
Two Deacons scored their first career goals in the second half. Kahla Seymour made it 3-0 in the 59th minute, scoring after a Kendall Fischlein long ball for her first score.
Kendal Robino added her first-career goal in the 83rd minute. She beat the keeper inside the left post after a deflection from Maddie Huster and header pass by Bayley Feist.
Lindsay Preston and Nonie Frishette combined for a clean sheet in goal. Preston saved Georgia's only two shots on goal and earned the victory.
Wake Forest out-shot Georgia 15-5, and allowed just two first-half shots on goal.
SEASON-OPENING SUCCESS
Wake Forest won its eighth straight season-opener, out-scoring opponents 23-4 over that stretch.
That streak now includes wins over SEC foes Georgia, Kentucky and Auburn.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Last year, Wake Forest scored more than one goal in a game just three times.
Wake Forest went the whole season without defeating an opponent by more than two goals.
FIRST TIME SINCE...
Eight different Deacons found their way into the scoresheet for the first time since 2005, when 11 did so in a 5-1 win over San Diego.
Wake Forest and Georgia played for the first time since 2002, when the Deacons won 3-1. Wake Forest takes a 2-1-3 lead in the series.
ON DECK
Wake Forest hits the road for four straight. First, the Deacons travel to Alabama (Aug. 28) and Samford (Aug. 30), before heading to Raleigh for a tournament the following weekend.
