The Match-Up
Wake Forest stays returns home after a four-game road swing for contests against UCLA (Friday, 7 p.m.) and George Mason (Sunday, 1 p.m.). The Friday game vs. UCLA airs live on ESPN3.
A top-five team in the preseason, UCLA has gotten off to a 2-3 start and fallen out of the national rankings. All five games have been decided by one goal, including a win over No. 13 Wisconsin and loss to No. 1 Virginia. George Mason enters the weekend with a 3-2 overall mark, with three straight games decided by one goal.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest finished last weekend with a 1-0-1 record, defeating Oregon, 1-0, and tying now-ranked William & Mary, 1-1, at a tournament hosted by NC State. The win over Oregon was Wake Forest's first in overtime since 2013. Sarah Medina led the Deacs with a goal and assist over the weekend, while Maddie Huster scored the golden goal in the victory over Oregon.
UCLA dropped a pair of games last weekend by 2-1 scores, to No. 1 Virginia and Texas. The Bruins' five goals have all come from different scorers, including from Taylor Smith and Lauren Kaskie last weekend.
George Mason split a pair of 1-0 games in Fairfax, Virginia last weekend, rebounding from a loss to UNCW by defeating App State on Sunday. Kirsten Glad made five saves in the shutout and Sarah Hardison scored the game-winner off the bench, her fifth goal of the year.
Spreading The Wealth
Wake Forest has scored seven goals as a team, with all seven coming from different scorers. Last year, there were only nine different goal scorers all season.
Five different Deacs have compiled Wake Forest's eight assists, with Maddie Huster, Bayley Feist and Sarah Teegarden tallying two apiece.
Fountain of Youth
Wake Forest had an extremely young team a year ago, starting at least seven underclassmen and at least four freshmen in every game.
That hasn't changed much in 2015, with 12 freshmen joining the program.
All nine sophomores started at least once as a freshman.
The Deacons return a total of 19 players for the 2015 season, including 11 who made at least five starts.
This year, six different freshmen have already started games.
A Challenging Year
Wake Forest played eight ranked opponents in the regular season last year, all of them consensus top 25 teams in both the NSCAA and Soccer America. That is the most of any ACC team. This year, the Deacons have games scheduled against eight teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including six straight from Sept. 27 - Oct. 16.
