
Deacs Finish Up Successful Day 2 of Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team completed day two of the Elon Invitational on Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center with the four players compiling a 4-2 record across six singles matches on the day.
Freshman Joanna Zalewski posted impressive victories in the Maroon Singles flight and advanced to the flight's finals in her first-career collegiate tournament. Zalewski topped Richmond's Gaby Rosales 6-2, 3-6 (10-6) in the quarterfinals before beating Aissa Muamba of North Carolina Central to advance to the finals. On Sunday, Zalewski will go for the Maroon Singles flight championship against Teodora Radosavljevic of George Washington.
Also in the Maroon bracket, Xue Zhang, fresh off her 100th-career win on Friday with the Demon Deacons, dropped a 7-6 (4), 7-5 decision to Radosavljevic in the quarterfinals.
Looking to make it two Demon Deacons taking two victories on Saturday, Andrea Retolaza Andrade won her first contest of the day against Western Carolina's Stacia Kissell by the score of 6-2, 6-2 in the Phoenix Singles flight. In the semifinals of the flight, Retolaza Andrade lost a tough battle against Elon's Erica Braschi by the score of 4-6, 7-5 (10-8). On the other side of the Phoenix Singles flight, Courtney Meredith advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket with a 6-4, 6-4 win over UNCG's Corinne Blythe.
On Sunday, the tournament will start with doubles finals as Zhang and Meredith go for the Phoenix Doubles flight title. The doubles finals will be followed by the completion of the consolation singles semifinals and the main draw singles finals. The consolation finals will not be played. Admission to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center during the tournament is free.
