CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Participating in the Harvard Invitational this weekend, the Wake Forest women's tennis team posted a 6-3 record on Friday over the course of the first day of the tournament.

In singles, the Deacs posted four singles victories with two doubles wins. Wake Forest was led by a solid 6-2, 6-0 performance from Xue Zhang in the Blue Singles draw against Kim McCallum of Boston University. Also playing in the Blue Singles draw this weekend, Andrea Retolaza Andrade posted a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Yale's Elizabeth Zordani. Luisa Fernandez will also play in the Blue Singles draw, but she earned a bye on Friday into the next round.

In the Red Singles bracket, Kimmy Guerin split the first two sets with Tina Jiang of Columbia before Jiang retired, putting Guerin through to the next round. Freshman Anna Ulyashenko, also playing in the Red Singles draw, lost in her collegiate debut by the score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 against Katya Vasilyev of Boston College.

With one player in action Friday in the Crimson Singles draw, Kasey Gardiner picked up a three-set win by the score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 over Lindsey Mendelson of Columbia. Courtney Meredith will also participate in the Crimson draw, as she earned a bye into the next round of the draw.

The final singles draw, the Green draw, saw Sam Asch fall 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to Annika Ringblom of Harvard. Emma Davis will continue in the Green draw on Saturday after receiving a bye on Friday.

In A Doubles action, Ulyashenko and Davis earned an 8-7 (6) win while Gardiner and Guerin fell 8-5. In the B Doubles draw, Fernandez and Retolaza Andrade posted an impressive 8-0 win over a duo from Boston University while Asch and Zhang earned a bye into the next round.

Action resumes tomorrow morning at Harvard with multiple Deacs looking for spots in the finals of their respective brackets.
