Wake Forest Opens Play in 3 Tournaments

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's tennis team completed the first day of three different tournaments on Friday. The Demon Deacons sent three players to the Duke Bonk Invitational in Durham, North Carolina, four players to the UVa Ranked +1 tournament in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Romain Bogaerts participated in the Oracle/ITA Masters in Malibu, California.
At the Masters, the season's first collegiate national championship, Bogaerts dropped his first-round matchup against Guillermo Nunez of TCU. Bogaerts is ranked No. 11 in the preseason ITA rankings while Nunez is ranked No. 19. In the consolation bracket on Saturday, Bogaerts will take on the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the No. 1 player in the ITA rankings, Oklahoma's Axel Alvarez Llamas.
At the Duke Bonk Invitational, Wake Forest went a perfect 3-for-3 in singles action with wins from Anthony Delcore, Maksim Kan and Sam Bloom. Delcore posted a 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Daniel McCall of Duke in the Black Singles draw while Kan beat Michael Ogden of NC State by the score of 6-0, 6-1. Bloom rounded out the victories with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Elon's Neal Port.
In Charlottesville, the Deacs were highlighted by two wins in the Blue Singles draw. Jon Ho, ranked No. 72 in the preseason rankings, picked up a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Rogerio Ribeiro of East Tennessee State while Keivon Tabrizi picked up a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Beck Pennington of Kentucky, who is ranked No. 39 in the country.
The Demon Deacons return to action Saturday morning at the three tournaments.
