CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team had a strong showing in the Harvard Invitational over the weekend, but came up just short of multiple flight titles on Sunday.
In the end, the Demon Deacons took home the Doubles B title as Luisa Fernandez and Andrea Retolaza Andrade took an impressive 8-2 victory against Harvard's Ellen Jang-Milsten and Isabel Jasper in the finals of the flight.
Overall, the Deacs had players in the finals of three of the four singles flights. Fernandez battled her way into the finals of the Blue Singles flight with two impressive victories on Saturday. She fell 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday against Jang-Milsten, though. In the Green Singles flight, Emma Davis also posted two solid victories Saturday to reach the finals against Annika Ringblom of Harvard. Davis couldn't clinch her first collegiate championship in the end after splitting sets with Ringblom, as she fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Kasey Gardiner rounded out the list of players in singles championships for the Demon Deacons in the Crimson Singles flight. She topped two players from Boston University on Saturday before falling 7-5, 7-5 to Courtney Amos of Yale in the finals.
Next up for Wake Forest is the Charleston, S.C. ITF Futures event from Sept. 26 through Oct. 4 in Charleston, South Carolina. Draws for the event will be made available before the start of the qualifying draw.
