Wake Forest Kicks Off ACC Play at Duke
After playing 12 non-conference matches to begin the season, the Wake Forest volleyball team opens up ACC play Wednesday when it takes on Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.
Last season, the Deacs placed ninth in the ACC with a 6-12 conference record.
The contest between Wake Forest and Duke will be the first ACC conference match of the season. Miami also plays at Florida State Wednesday.
Last Time Out
Last weekend, Wake Forest played at home for the first time in 2015 as it hosted the Deacon Classic.
For the fourth-consecutive season, the Demon Deacons won their home opener by defeating Georgia, 3-1, on Friday. The Deacs then rallied twice to take down Hofstra, 3-2, before dropping a 3-1 decision to VCU on Saturday.
Matalee Reed and Caroline Wolf were named to the all-tournament team. Reed recorded 34 kills on a .319 hitting percentage, adding 12 blocks. Wolf had a team-high 64 digs and chipped in 13 assists from the libero position.
In ACC Openers
Last season, the Demon Deacons defeated Virginia Tech in five sets at home in their first league game. The Demon Deacons are seeking their 10th all-time ACC-opening victory.
Leading the ACC
Entering conference play, Kylie Long leads the ACC with 172 kills on the season. Her 3.82 kills per set slot her third in the conference.
Caroline Wolf is the conference's leader in digs with 226 thus far in 2015. She has averaged 4.91 digs per set, good for second in the league.
Scouting Duke
Duke has gotten off to a 5-5 start to the season. The Blue Devils go into Wednesday averaging 14.46 kills per set and 13.24 assists per set to rank second in the ACC in both categories. They are led by two-time AVCA All-American and 2013 ACC Player of the Year Emily Sklar, who has a team-best 4.00 kills per set.
The All-time Series
Duke has a 48-14 edge in the all-time series between the teams. The Blue Devils have won the last four meetings, including a pair of 3-0 victories in 2014.
Wake Forest's last win against Duke came in five sets at home on Nov. 20, 2012. The Deacs defeated the Blue Devils in Durham a month prior.
Next Time Out
The Demon Deacons will come home Saturday to face Virginia. They continue a 15-match stretch of games in the state of North Carolina the following weekend when they face N.C. State and North Carolina on the road.
