WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Eleven former Demon Deacons remain in the NFL, with eight currently on active rosters. We take a look at what each former Deac did around the NFL over the weekend.
FB Tommy Bohanon, New York Jets
Getting the starting nod and seeing action on 29 plays in the Jets' Week 2 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Bohanon did not record any statistics. He was primarily used in blocking scenarios.
DB Josh Bush, Denver Broncos
Bush got into a 31-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs as a backup, but did not record a tackle on the game. He is part of a defense that has scored two game-winning touchdowns so far this season.
WR Michael Campanaro, Baltimore Ravens
Playing on offense and special teams, Michael Campanaro did not record a catch in a 37-33 loss to the Oakland Raiders on the road, but he did record a 29-yard kickoff return as the Ravens' starting returner.
WR Chris Givens, St. Louis Rams
In the Rams' 24-10 loss to the Washington Redskins, Givens recorded one catch for seven yards. He is still looking to find his rhythm this season after being a big playmaker in the preseason for St. Louis.
LB Justin Jackson, Dallas Cowboys
After signing with the Cowboys in June, Jackson tore his ACL in practice in early August. He will miss the 2015 season.
DB Kevin Johnson, Houston Texans
Looking to grab a starting position from veteran corner Jonathan Joseph, Johnson turned in another solid performance in a 24-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers on the road. The Texans' first-round draft pick recorded two tackles and a pass breakup. He has recorded a "yards per coverage snap" of 0.04, the best for all cornerbacks in the NFL. In 52 coverage snaps, he has only allowed one catch, and it was for 2 yards.
DB Merrill Noel, Buffalo Bills
After being released by the team on September 4, Noel was signed to the Bills practice squad.
LB Calvin Pace, New York Jets
Pace got the starting nod again, helping the Jets to a 2-0 start this season with a 20-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts. The veteran linebacker recorded one solo tackle and contributed to a shutdown of Colts QB Andrew Luck. He has started 143 career games in the NFL.
LB Zach Thompson, Baltimore Ravens
After seeing action in all four preseason games for the Ravens and recording a tackle in the final preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons, Thompson was placed on Injured Reserve.
FB Nikita Whitlock, New York Giants
Whitlock did not record any statistics on nine snaps in a 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but was praised for his lead blocking.
LB Kyle Wilber, Dallas Cowboys
Wilber, in his fourth season with the Dallas Cowboys, returned a blocked punt 26 yards for a touchdown in a 20-10 win over division rival Philadelphia. He also saw action on the defense, assisting on a tackle. ESPN gave Wilber credit for the Cowboys' ability to stuff the run game on defense.
