The Match-Up
• Wake Forest stays in-state to take on a pair of out-of-state rivals in Raleigh at a tournament hosted by NC State. The Demon Deacons take on William & Mary on Friday at 5 p.m., and Oregon on Sunday at 11 a.m.
• After a 3-0 upset of Georgetown, William & Mary snuck into the Soccer America top-25. The Tribe then fell to Duke and dropped out of the top-25, but is currently receiving votes in the NSCAA poll. Oregon lost its first three contests, but rebounded with an Aug. 30 victory over Fresno State.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest jumped out to a seventh-minute lead against Samford behind a Sarah Teegarden goal, but Samford scored two straight to win, 2-1. Lindsay Preston made a season-high four saves and Bayley Feist recorded her second assist of the season. The Demon Deacons also played Alabama to a scoreless draw on the trip, despite holding an 18-10 advantage in shots and 7-2 lead in shots on goal.
• William & Mary dropped its first game of the year to Duke by a 2-0 margin. Heading into that game, the Tribe had out-scored opponents, 11-1, but William & Mary was out-shot 27-4 against the Blue Devils.
• Oregon out-shot Fresno State 20-5, claiming a 1-0 win on a 75th-minute goal from Taylor Kuroda. In goal, Lauren Holden saved all three shots on target she faced to earn the shutout.
Fountain of Youth
• Wake Forest had an extremely young team a year ago, starting at least seven underclassmen and at least four freshmen in every game.
• That isn't likely to change much in 2015, with 12 freshmen joining the program. Three freshmen started their first career games, while seven saw action.
• All nine sophomores - Lindsay Preston, Maddie Huster and Sarah Medina, Monreau DeVos, Claudia Day, Casey Brown, Kahla Seymour, Pilar Torres and Ally Haran - started at least once as a freshman.
• The Deacons return a total of 19 players for the 2015 season, including 11 who made at least five starts.
• This year, five different freshmen have already started games.
A Challenging Year
• Wake Forest played eight ranked opponents in the regular season last year, all of them consensus top 25 teams in both the NSCAA and Soccer America. That is the most of any ACC team. This year, the Deacons have games scheduled against eight teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
