CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team was edged by Miami, 2-1, at Cobb Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After the Hurricanes (8-4, 3-1 ACC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute on a Grace Lachowecki goal, the Demon Deacons (8-4, 0-4 ACC) answered back 10 minutes later.
Haley Jordahl, making her first start of her career, shouldered off a defender and sent a cross into Claudia Day, who dropped off another pass to Peyton Perea for a far-post finish to even the score at 1-1.
But a defensive breakdown in the second half left the far post unattended, and Shannon McCarthy found an open Dejah Cason who found the back of the net for the game-winner in the 58th minute.
The teams were even with 10 shots and five shots on goal per side. Lindsay Preston made three saves, while Phallis Tullis-Joyce stopped four of Wake Forest's shots on goal. Wake Forest doubled up Miami in corners, 4-2.
Wake Forest returns home after playing the last three contests on the road, taking on top-10 foe Duke on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
