
Demon Deacons Open ITA Carolina Regional Action

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's tennis opened play in the ITA Carolina Regionals on Thursday afternoon at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina. Though the Demon Deacons didn't have any players participating in singles qualifying, four Wake Forest duos played doubles qualifying on Thursday.
Three Wake Forest pairing earned first round byes in seventh-seeded Kimmy Guerin and Chandler Carter, eighth-seeded Emma Davis and Anna Ulyashchenko and 12th-seeded Luisa Fernandez and Joanna Zalewski.
In second-round action for the seeded pairings, Zalewski and Fernandez beat Alexa Abele and Ava Todd of Davidson by the score of 8-4 and Davis and Ulyashchenko defeated Samantha Armas and Megan Schlvinck of Davidson 8-4. Guerin and Carter dropped an 8-3 decision against South Carolina's Silvia Chinellato and Ingrid Martins.
In the first round, Samantha Asch and Courtney Meredith earned an 8-2 victory over Alex Koniaev and Suzanne Zenoni of Elon before falling 8-5 in the second round against Duke's fifth-seeded duo of Ellyse Hamlin and Samantha Harris.
Wake Forest continues play Friday in Chapel Hill in the ITA Carolina Regional. Singles will get underway with seven Demon Deacons set to compete in the main draw and third-round doubles will follow singles action.
