Four Deacs Move Through ITA Regionals Singles First Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's tennis got off to a good start in ITA Carolina Regional main-draw singles play on Friday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina with four individuals winning in straight sets to advance to the second round.
To open the day in singles play, 10th-seeded Emma Davis topped Elon's Erica Braschi 6-3, 6-3, Anna Ulyashchenko decisively took down Hannah Francisco of UNC Asheville by the score of 6-1, 6-0, Samantha Asch defeated Elon qualifier Maria Paraja 6-3, 6-2 and 11th-seeded Kimmy Guerin dispatched Appalachian State's Rebecca Morse with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
While two Wake Forest duos advanced to the third round in doubles, neither pair was able to advance Friday with eighth-seeded Davis and Ulyashchenko falling 8-2 to a duo from North Carolina and Luisa Fernandez and Joanna Zalewski dropped an 8-0 match to South Carolina's sixth-seeded pair of Caroline Dailey and Mia Horvit.
Action in the ITA Carolina Regionals will continue tomorrow in Chapel Hill. Singles play starts the day at 9 a.m. with Wake Forest's first player competing at 10 a.m.
