ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team surged up the leaderboard during second round play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The Demon Deacons shot a 9-under round of 279 on Saturday, tied for the low-round of the day, to move up from 13th place to a tie for fourth place at 2-over.
The ninth-ranked Demon Deacons are one of six top-10 teams in the field. After opening the day 16 strokes out of the lead following an 11-over first round, Wake Forest will enter the final round just four strokes back. Oklahoma continues to lead the tournament at 2-under par. Texas A&M and Virginia are at even par with Wake Forest, Duke and USC tied for fourth at 2-over.
"Last night we talked as a team about showing what this group is made of," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We had good play by everyone and the scores weren't indicative of just how well we played. We are back in contention and are looking forward to tomorrow."
Will Zalatoris led the Demon Deacon charge, shooting a 5-under second round 67. He moved into the top-20 of the individual leaderboard at 1-over for the tournament. Cameron Young is T-9th place at 2-under after shooting a 3-under 69 on Saturday.
