CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Kimmy Guerin earned two singles wins at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at the University of North Carolina on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2016 ITA Carolina Regionals.
On the day, 11th-seeded Guerin topped Caroline Dailey of South Carolina 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 to reach the third round before taking down sixth-seeded Chalena Scholl of Duke 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarters. In the round on Sunday, Guerin will take on third-seeded Jessie Aney of North Carolina at noon.
Though four Deacs reached the second round after winning Friday, Guerin was the only one to advance. Anna Ulyashchenko fell 6-2, 6-2 to NC State's fourth-seeded Martina Frantova, Samantha Asch dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision against 12th-seeded Ellyse Hamlin of Duke and 10th-seeded Emma Davis fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to South Carolina's Brigit Folland.
With Guerin reaching the quarterfinals, it marks the second year in a row Wake Forest has been represented in the final eight. Last year, Ulyashchenko reached the semifinals of the tournament as a freshman. Davis also reached the quarterfinals last year before falling there to top-seeded Hayley Carter of North Carolina.
