CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Kimmy Guerin's run in the ITA Carolina Regionals at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center this weekend came to an end in the tournament quarterfinals on Sunday.
After winning two matches and playing five sets on Saturday, 11th-seeded Guerin ran out of energy on Sunday in a 6-3, 6-1 loss to third-seeded Jessie Aney of North Carolina. Aney also beat South Carolina's Ingrid Martins later in the day to advance to Monday's final against top-seeded Sara Daavettila, also of North Carolina.
With Guerin's run to the quarterfinals, it marks the second year in a row Wake Forest has had a player reach the quarterfinals of the draw. Last year, both Emma Davis and Anna Ulyashchenko reached the quarters and Ulyashchenko advanced to the semifinals before bowing out.
Wake Forest will be back in action this weekend with the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville. Competition will start on Friday, Oct. 28, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 30. The Tennessee Invitational is the final fall tournament on the docket for the Demon Deacons this year. Wake Forest will open the 2017 spring season on Jan. 16 with a doubleheader against College of Charleston and Winthrop.
