WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Clemson 3-2 on Sunday.
Clemson (6-16) jumped out to an early lead over Wake Forest (9-12) in the first set. The Tigers gained a 5-1 advantage over Wake Forest but the Demon Deacons would go on to score six of nine points to down Clemson's lead to one and force a time out. The Tigers took the first point out of the timeout but the Deacs would tie the score three times in the first set alone. Kylie Long and Hanna Lee both recorded five kills and no errors for 1.000 hitting percentage for Lee and a .625 clip for Long. However, the Tigers would go on to win the first set, 25-20.
The second set was a battle complete with 11 tied scores and two lead changes. Neither squad led by more than two points until an attack error from Long gave Clemson a 9-6 lead and forced a Wake Forest time out. The remainder of the set consisted of ties and runs but ultimately Clemson came out on top, 25-23.
The Demon Deacons were an entirely new squad coming off of the break. Wake Forest came out to a red-hot start and gained a 11-5 advantage over the Tigers. The set was simply dominated by Wake Forest, who ended up with a 25-11 set victory, their second-largest margin of victory this season. Clemson was held to a -.095 attack percentage while Wake Forest averaged a .407 attack percentage.
The fourth set mimicked the second but it was the Demon Deacons who were on top this time. Clemson recorded only six kills in the set with a .086 attack percentage but totaled five team blocks to hold Wake Forest to a .152 hitting percentage. Katie Moore recorded five kills and no errors on five swings for a perfect 1.000 attack percentage to lead Wake Forest to a 25-21 set victory that forced the deciding set.
Wake Forest seemed to control the fifth set but Clemson would not back down. The Tigers managed to tie the score twice but the Demon Deacons ultimately took the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Wake Forest has found themselves in five sets for four-straight matches, splitting those matches 2-2. The Demon Deacons are now 2-6 in five-set matches this season.
The Deacs totaled a .231 attack percentage thanks to a stellar match from senior Hanna Lee. Lee recorded 13 kills and no errors on 18 total attempts for a .722 attack percentage. Kylie Long recorded her eight double-double of the season with 15 digs and 13 kills while Caroline Rassenfoss talled a double-double with 20 kills and 10 digs.
