FORT WORTH, Texas. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team continued play at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational on Monday, shooting 11-over during the second round at Colonial Country Club. The Demon Deacons are tied for eighth at 11-over for the tournament, which features nine of the top 14 teams in the nation.
Vanderbilt is the 36-hole leader at 9-under, one shot ahead of Florida at 8-under. Those are the only two teams in the 15-team field under par after the second round.
"This was the not the day we expected," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Look for the Demon Deacons to rebound tomorrow and play very well. This is an excellent field, but a good day tomorrow will put us back in contention. There was more wind today and that made play more difficult, but we just made a few mistakes that we haven't been making earlier in the year."
Cameron Young continues to lead the Demon Deacons, as he is 1-under through two rounds after a second round 72. He is tied for eighth on the individual leaderboard. Will Zalatoris is at even par for the tournament, tied for 13th place, after a 1-over round of 71 on Monday.
After an even par first round, Eric Bae shot a 5-over 75 on Monday. Paul McBride rebounded from a disappointing first round with a second-round 73 and is at 9-over for the tournament. Woody Woodward shot a second-round 77 and is at 11-over for the tournament.
The Demon Deacons won the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational last year when it was held at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Ore.
The tournament concludes Tuesday at Colonial Country Club.
