GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest junior Kylie Long was named ACC Co-Player of the Week Monday afternoon, the league announced.
Long shares the honor with North Carolina freshman Julia Scoles.
The Demon Deacons have received ACC accolades two weeks in a row. Caroline Rassenfoss previously received the ACC Freshman of the Week honor Sept. 26th, thanks to her impressive career-high 26-kill match against Virginia. This also marks the first season two-plus Deacs have received weekly honors since 2011.
Long is no stranger to ACC honors, as she was named ACC Freshman of the Week in November of 2014 and named a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team later that same season.
The Plano, Texas-native had an impressive weekend on offense, recording double-doubles against Louisville and Notre Dame. Long recorded 22 kills and 10 digs in the 3-1 win over Louisville. She tallied only seven errors and ended the match with a .283 hitting percentage. Long then went on to record 23 kills, one-short of her career high, and 11 digs in the 3-1 loss to Notre Dame. She also recorded a season-high four blocks in the affair.
The junior has made an incredible impact on the volleyball program since she began in 2014. As a freshman, she started in all 32 matches and finished the season third on the squad with 265 kills and second with 251 digs. Her sophomore season was much of the same, as she played in 120 of the team's 121 sets. She became the seventh Demon Deacon to post a 400-plus-kill season with her 423 total kills, the ninth-highest in program history.
"Going into the [2016] season, we knew Kylie was going to have to be a key contributor as a primary passer, an offensive focal point as a point scorer and a cornerstone of our blocking system in order for our team to progress," said head coach Bill Ferguson.
This season, Long leads the Deacs with 243 kills while her total kills and 3.98 kills/set average is good for second in the ACC. Long has also tallied 109 digs this season, putting her in third on the team. She's played in all 61 sets for the Demon Deacons this season and has started all 15 matches.
"Kylie has exceeded our high expectations," said Coach Ferguson. "I'm thrilled for her to be recognized for her efforts. Kylie is a tremendous role model for young women with a quiet strength, fierce determination and a leader by example."
The Demon Deacons continue play at home this weekend with a pair of conference matches. The squad will face Virginia Tech on Friday, Oct. 7 and Pittsburgh on Oct. 9.
