The Matchup
Wake Forest returns home after a three-game road swing, and will play four of the next five games at home. That slate begins against No. 9-ranked Duke on Thursday night at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
Wake Forest Storylines
Wake Forest is coming off its first four losses of the season, most recently a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Miami. After an early Hurricane goal, the Deacs answered back when Peyton Perea scored her fourth of the year off assists from Claudia Day and Haley Jordahl. Miami, however, scored the game-winner in the second half when an attacker was left unmarked at the far post.
Two Demon Deacons have double-digit point totals: Maddie Huster (5 goals, 3 assists, 13 points) and Bayley Feist (4g, 2 a, 10 pts). Peyton Perea (4g, 8 pts), Caroline Wootten (1g, 3a, 5 pts), Jenna Romano (2g, 4 pts), Sarah Medina (1g, 2a, 4 pts) and Maddie Brock (1g, 2a, 4 pts) also have at least four points apiece.
Wake Forest went unbeaten in non-conference play for just the second time in program history. The Deacs also accomplished the feat in 2013.
In the nation, the Deacs rank 40th in shutout percentage (.500), 45th in assists (22), 48th in shots on goal per game (7.83), 59th in points (66) and 67th in goals (22).
Opponent and Series History
Duke enters the game with an 8-2-2 record and 3-0-1 mark in the ACC. In league action, the Blue Devils have defeated Syracuse (4-0), Virginia Tech (4-0), Boston College (3-2), and played Louisville to a scoreless draw.
The Blue Devils have outscored opponents by a 32-10 margin. Seven Blue Devils have scored multiple goals, including Ella Stevens (six), Imani Dorsey (five) and Toni Payne (five) leading the way with five or more apiece.
Duke leads the all-time series, 15-9-4, but it has been more evenly matched in recent seasons. The only two-game winning streak in the series in the last decade came when Wake Forest won back-to-back games in 2012 and 2013. Wake Forest has a 6-4-3 advantage since 2006.
Last year was the first season the teams did not play since the Wake Forest program was created in 1994.
Looking Ahead
Wake Forest hits the road again, traveling to take on in-state rival No. 10 North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
