WINSTON-SALEM, N.C./PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Wake Forest women's tennis wrapped up play in two tournament this past weekend, hosting the Wake Forest Invitational and traveling out to California for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

In Winston-Salem, Chandler Carter made a run to the semifinals of the A Singles bracket by topping Western Carolina's Savannah Taranto, 6-4, 6-1, and Winthrop's Caitlin Cridland by the score of 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (2). She dropped a hard-fought semifinal match to Georgia's Marta Gonzalez by the score of 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4). Carter went on to take third place in the draw with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Elon's Erica Braschi.

Luisa Fernandez and Samantha Asch also picked up victories in the A Singles draw. Fernandez topped Lisa Hofbauer of East Carolina by the score of 6-4, 6-4 in the first round before falling to Gonzalez 7-6 (1), 6-4 and Asch beat Navy's Josie Rogers 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Georgia's Laura Patterson by the final of 6-2, 6-2. Both players won matches in the fifth place bracket as Fernandez beat Cridland 6-0, 6-2 and Asch topped Liberty's Emily Groeneveld 6-2, 6-4.

Though Joanna Zalewski dropped her first round matchup to Groeneveld 6-4, 6-2, she did not lose the rest of the way in beating Duke's Alyssa Smith (6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1 and Richmond's Gaby Rosales (4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3).

In doubles action at the Wake Forest Invitational, Zalewski and Fernandez paired to take seventh place in the A Doubles draw. After losing their first two matches of the bracket, the two beat East Carolina's Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina 8-7. In B Doubles, Carter and Courtney Meredith paired to top ECU's Nastja Rettich and Maria Gomez by the score of 8-1 and beat Elon's Alex Koniaev and Suzanne Zenoni by the final of 8-5 before falling to Sena Suswam and Olivia Boesing of Louisville in the draw final, 8-7 (3).

At the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, No. 76 Emma Davis took down Ryann Foster of LSU, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, in her first qualifying matchup before falling to No. 52 Caroline Doyle of Stanford in the second round, 6-2, 6-1. Though Kimmy Guerin dropped her first qualifying match of the day to No. 37 Lauren Marker of Arizona, she combined with Davis to give Wake Forest two players in qualifying of the tournament since Kayla Duncan and Martina Pavelec in 2010.

In doubles action, Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko dropped their first matchup to Jasmine Lee and Lisa Marie Rioux by the score of 8-4 but recovered to pick up a victory over Gabriela Porubin and Giulia Guidetti of Wichita State by the final of 8-5. Having a doubles duo in the qualifying bracket of the tournament marked the first time Wake Forest has had a pair past pre-qualifying since Duncan and Kathryn Talbert in the 2011 main draw.

Wake Forest returns to action on Oct. 20 in Chapel Hill for the first round of the ITA Carolina Regionals.
