Deacs Go For Home Sweep of In-State Rivals Sunday
The Demon Deacons go for their fourth-straight victory and sixth in the last eight contests Sunday afternoon at home against Duke.
Opening tip on ESPN3 between the Deacs and Blue Devils is set for 2 p.m. inside LJVM Coliseum.
Wake Forest is looking to top Duke, NC State and North Carolina in the same season for just the second time in program history. The first time it was accomplished was during the 1987-88 campaign.
The Deacs are 3-0 to start the month of February for the third time in program history. Wake Forest also started February with a 3-0 record in 2008-09 and 1985-86.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons struggled out of the gate as Clemson pulled out to an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter, but Wake Forest battled back and took a lead to the second quarter, ultimately beating the Tigers 55-45.
Amber Campbell led the Deacs with 19 points while Milan Quinn recorded her seventh double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ariel Stephenson rounded out the Deacs' double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Deacs held Clemson scoreless over the final 2:46 of the game to secure the victory.
Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke enters Sunday's game off a loss at home to No. 10/9 Florida State.
Overall, Duke is 17-9 on the season and 6-6 in ACC play. Currently, the Blue Devils are in seventh in the ACC standings while Wake Forest is alone in eighth with a 5-7 mark.
Azura Stevens leads Duke with 19.1 points per game, but she's missed the last three games with injury. Rebecca Greenwell is the only other Blue Devil averaging double figures with 14.7 points per game this season.
Series History
Duke took the first meeting this season between the two on Jan. 7. The Deacs trailed by single digits at half at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but the Blue Devils used a 34-9 third-quarter run to race to the win 95-68.
Wake Forest has lost 45 games in a row against Duke, last winning on March 5, 1993.
Playing For Kay
Sunday's game is Wake Forest's annual Pink Game in honor of the Kay Yow Foundation and Wake Forest Baptist Health's Comprehensive Cancer Center.
On Sunday, fans can wear pink and get into the game free of charge. Limited edition women's basketball t-shirts will also be on sale and player-worn warm-up jerseys will be auctioned off. In addition, free rally towels will be given to the first 500 fans through the gate and because it's Valentine's Day, carnation flowers will be given to the first 200 fans. A Pink carnival will include games, prizes and inflatables in the main lobby at LJVM Coliseum, starting at 1 p.m.
Next Time Out
Wake Forest stays at home for the second game of a three-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 18, for a 7 p.m. contest against Notre Dame.
Opening tip between the Deacs and Irish is set for 7 p.m.
