EAST LANSING/YPSILANTI, Mich. --
The Wake Forest women's tennis team extended its best start in program history on Saturday, picking up road wins at No. 69 Michigan State and Eastern Michigan by scores of 5-2 and 7-0, respectively.

The Demon Deacons are now 9-0 on the season, breaking the program record for consecutive wins to begin a season. The 2014 Deacs won seven matches in a row before losing. Five of the team's nine wins have come on the road and three of its five road wins have come against ranked opponents.

Despite dropping the doubles point, Wake Forest came back to defeat Michigan State in its first match of the day in East Lansing, Mich. The teams split Nos. 1 and 2 doubles before MSU's Emily Meyers and Lexi Baylis clinched the point by holding off Xue Zhang and Kasey Gardiner, 7-5, at No. 3.

No. 77 Kimmy Guerin got the comeback going in singles, starting quick and never looking back for a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top position. Luisa Fernandez then gave the Deacs the lead for good with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 6. Anna Ulyashchenko finished a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 to make it 3-1.

Emma Davis secured the team victory with a resilient showing at No. 2. Michigan State's Davina Nguyen jumped ahead 4-1 in the first set and 5-1 in the second set, but Davis came roaring back to win both sets. The final score of her match was 6-4, 7-5.

With the team result no longer in question, Joanna Zalewski made it 5-1 with a straight-set triumph over Aslina Chua at No. 4 and the Spartans made it a 5-2 final when Emily Metcalf handed Samantha Asch her first singles loss of the spring in a 10-7 match tiebreaker.

Wake Forest 7, Eastern Michigan 0
With a school record already in hand at 8-0, the Demon Deacons looked to add to their impressive start with a win against Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Deacs started strong, winning a quick doubles point.

Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko got back on track with a 6-0 win at No. 1 and Novi, Mich. native Kasey Gardiner won, 6-3, at No. 3 playing alongside Joanna Zalewski.

The Deacs did not let up in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets. Emma Davis finished an impressive day with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at No. 2. Rookies Zalewski and Ulyashchenko sealed the fourth team point with victories at Nos. 4 and 3, respectively.
