GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's tennis junior Kimmy Guerin has been named the ACC Co-Player of the Week, the Atlantic Coast Conference office announced on Tuesday. She shares the honor with Georgia Tech sophomore Johnnise Renaud.
The weekly conference accolade is the second of Guerin's career. She became the first Demon Deacon to earn ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors since 2012 when she won the award in March of 2015. She is the first Wake Forest student-athlete to win the award twice in her career since Ashlee Davis received it twice in her freshman year in 2004.
The native of Weston, Conn. won both of her matches at the No. 1 singles position last Saturday, helping lead the Deacons to a 5-2 win over 69th-ranked Michigan State and a 7-0 triumph against Eastern Michigan. Both matches were on the road. With the wins, the Deacs improved to 9-0 for the first time in program history.
To start the day, Guerin erased a 1-0 deficit for Wake Forest by dispatching the Spartans' Lexi Baylis, 6-1, 6-1. She then defeated the Eagles' Klara Supejova, also in straight sets, by a final score of 7-5, 7-5. Additionally, Guerin paired with Anna Ulyashchenko to add a 6-0 win in the top doubles position against Eastern Michigan.
Her singles win over Supejova made her the 37th Deacon all-time with 100-career wins in singles and doubles combined.
Ranked No. 77 in singles, Guerin is now 9-0 in on the spring, including 8-0 at the top spot and 2-0 against ranked foes. Dating back to the fall season, Guerin has won 11-consecutive contests.
The Demon Deacons conclude a five-match road swing this Sunday at 1 p.m. at 20th-ranked Clemson. That match will also open the team's ACC schedule. The Deacs will return home for five-straight matches on Feb. 26 when they take on Louisville and UNC-Greensboro.
