MOBILE, Ala. – The Wake Forest men's golf team began its spring schedule Monday with the opening two rounds of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Club. The Demon Deacons are in fourth place at 1-under through 36 holes of the event.

Wake Forest shot a 4-over first round of 292 in the morning before posting a 5-under round of 282 later in the day. Auburn leads the event at 16-under, followed by Chattanooga at 8-under and Georgia State at 2-under.

"During the second round, we played the par fives better and hung in there," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It is still early in the season and the team will rebound and make some putts. Auburn will be tough to catch, but we can't worry about them, only ourselves."

Wake Forest has a pair of players in the individual top-10 after two rounds. Paul McBride and Davis Womble are both T-6th at 2-under. McBride followed a first-round 74 with a four-under second round 68. Womble had a second-round 70 after an even-par first round of 72.

Will Zalatoris is T-12th at 1-under, shooting a first round 73 and a second round 70. Kyle Sterbinsky is T-52nd at 6-over and Cameron Young is T-65th at 9-over following the first two rounds.

The tournament concludes Tuesday in Mobile.
