RICHMOND, Va. --
The 64th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team recorded its third-straight shutout on Saturday afternoon, downing VCU, 7-0, at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va.

The victory gave the Demon Deacons a 6-0 record for the third time in school history and for the second time in three years. They also improved to 2-0 on the road.

For the fifth time in six matches, the Deacons started with a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. No. 51-ranked Andrea Retolaza Andrade and Luisa Fernandez started things out with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot before Samantha Asch and Emma Davis clinched the point at No. 2 by defeating Anna Rasmussen and Janina Braun, 7-5.

The Deacs secured the win with another strong showing in singles play.

Joanna Zalewski doubled Wake Forest's lead by dispatching Magda Aubets at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 6-1. Davis then won her fourth-straight singles match and defeated a nationally ranked opponent for the first time by taking down No. 98 Anna Rasmussen, 6-4, 6-2 in the second spot.

To seal the team decision, Anna Ulyashchenko closed out a straight-set triumph at No. 3 against Darya Berezhnaya.

Kimmy Guerin then won at No. 1, Asch won at No. 5 in a match tiebreaker and Fernandez finished off Janina Braun at No. 6 to complete the sweep.

Guerin, Zalewski and Asch are all 6-0 in singles in dual match play and Asch has won nine-consecutive contests dating back to the fall.

Wake Forest will face its second ranked foe of the season on Sunday when it travels to No. 42 William & Mary for a 1 p.m. match. The Deacs will continue a stretch of five-consecutive matches on the road with a trip to the Great Lakes State next Saturday. They will play both Michigan State and Eastern Michigan.
