SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the 16-team main draw for the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championships at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. on Tuesday. Wake Forest was seeded ninth and will take on No. 8 Oklahoma in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The winner of Friday's match will play the winner of the opening-round contest between host and top-seeded Virginia and 16th-seeded San Diego. One round will be played on each day culminating with the championship match on Monday.
Joining the Deacs and Cavaliers from the ACC is No. 3 North Carolina.
Thirteen of the 15 No. 1 seeds in the 2016 ITA Kick-Off Weekend, including the Demon Deacons, advanced to the National Team Indoors. By virtue of hosting the tournament, Virginia received an automatic bid into the event.
Wake Forest is making its first-ever appearance at the event and earned its spot in the main draw by defeating Auburn and Tennessee on ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Winston-Salem back on Jan. 24 and 25.
The Deacons will meet the Sooners for the second time this season on Friday. The Deacs defeated then-No. 2 Oklahoma, 5-2, on the road on Jan. 31. After taking the doubles point, Wake Forest received singles wins from Skander Mansouri, Petros Chrysochos, and Romain Bogaerts at the top three positions, respectively, as well as a victory at No. 6 from Christian Seraphim.
The Sooners were the highest-ranked team the Demon Deacons have ever beaten. Oklahoma had not lost at home since 2013 prior to the match.
Going into Friday, the Deacs are 7-1 on the season and have won three-straight matches. The Sooners, who won the ITA National Team Indoor Championships last season, are 3-2 after falling at North Carolina last week. They defeated Utah State and Troy on ITA Kick-Off Weekend and also picked up a win at No. 63 Alabama.
