Wake Forest Extends Streak With Two Victories

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 10 Wake Forest men's tennis team extended its school-record shutout streak to seven matches on Sunday with 7-0 wins over Clemson and South Carolina State indoors at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The matches concluded a season-long, 13-match homestand.
With the victories, the Deacons secured their fifth 20-win season in program history and their third in the last four years. They are now 20-4 with a 4-1 mark in the ACC. Since suffering a 4-3 loss to NC State on March 6, the Deacs have earned 49 team points in a row.
No. 10 Wake Forest 7, Clemson 0
To begin the afternoon, No. 19-ranked Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim cruised past No. 77 Alex Favrot and Luke Johnson of Clemson, 6-1, for their sixth victory over a ranked pairing. Petros Chrysochos and Jon Ho then finished off the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 2.
Wake Forest's momentum carried over into singles, where Dennis Uspensky padded his team's cushion with a quick, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5. Romain Bogaerts then put the Deacons on the brink of victory by finishing off a straight-set win of his own at No. 3.
To clinch the team win, 19th-ranked Mansouri held off Favrot at No. 1, 6-3, 7-5. Mansouri is now 7-2 at the top spot in the lineup this year.
To make it 5-0, Jon Ho became the sixth men's tennis player in Wake Forest history to record 100-career singles wins with a 7-6 (3), 6-0 defeat of Austin Ansari at No. 4. Rounding out the shutout were Seraphim at No. 6 and No. 45 Chrysochos at No. 2.
Seraphim leads the Demon Deacons with 27 singles wins in 2015-16.

In its last of 13 matches in a row at home, Wake Forest swept South Carolina State in the doubles competition. Keivon Tabrizi and Sam Bloom won, 6-1, at No. 2 and Skander Mansouri and Romain Bogaerts earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 to seal the first point of the match. Maksim Kan and Anthony Delcore then completed a 6-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Petros Chrysochos continued the hosts' roll with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the top flight before Maksim Kan upended Cyprian Owczarz, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4. Dennis Uspensky secured the Deacs' victory at No. 2 with his team-leading 17th dual-match singles triumph of 2016.
After surviving a first-set tiebreaker at No. 3, Keivon Tabrizi made it 5-0 with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win. Bloom won at No. 5 and Delcore won at No. 6 to finish the shutout.

The Demon Deacons hit the road for the first time since playing at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. from Feb. 12-14 next week. They will play at Miami on Friday before heading to 23rd-ranked Florida State on Sunday.
