WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --
The 14th-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team won outdoors for the first time this season, taking down ACC foe Pittsburgh, 5-2, at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.

The win vaulted the Demon Deacons' 2016 record to 16-4 with a 5-3 ledger. Their overall win total is their most since 2002 and their league win total is their most since going 7-4 in 2007.

To begin the match, the Deacons won the doubles competition for the third contest in a row. After staying on serve through the first seven games, Luisa Fernandez and Andrea Retolaza Andrade broke Natsumi Okamoto and Amber Washington to go up, 5-3, en route to a 6-3 victory.

The doubles point was clinched at the top position, where Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko raced out to a 4-0 lead before going on to win, 6-2.

Reigning ACC Co-Player of the Week Ulyashchenko continued her strong play of late to make it 2-0, defeating Callie Frey, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 for her fourth-straight singles win. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native now has 20 singles victories in her rookie campaign.

Bringing the Deacs to the cusp of victory was No. 84 Guerin, who cruised to a 6-0 win in her first set and outlasted No. 85-ranked Audrey Ann Blakely for a 7-5 second-set win at No. 1. The triumph was Guerin's fifth of the spring against a ranked opponent and gave the hosts a 3-0 advantage in the match.

Fernandez clinched the team result with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 before Samantha Asch made it 5-0 with a straight-set win at No. 5.

The Panthers got on the board with third-set match tiebreaker wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles positions.

Wake Forest will cap a four-match homestand on Saturday at noon in a top-15 showdown against 10th-ranked Duke. Next week, the Demon Deacons are slated for road matches against Syracuse and Boston College.
