#DeacsInMadrid: Wake Forest Men's Soccer Takes On Spain
About the trip: From March 4 through March 13, Wake Forest men's soccer will travel through Spain over spring break, getting the adventure of a lifetime while being fully immersed in the Spanish soccer scene. During its time in Spain, the Demon Deacons will have the chance to see three professional soccer games and players, including Real Madrid C.F. with Christiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and many other of the sport's greats, before going to Barcelona to see F.C. Barcelona, Lionel Messi and others. At the same time, the team will get a crash course education in Spanish history and culture while touring each city extensively. To cap it off, the Deacs will have the chance to play three matches against trialist teams from Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and UE Cornella.
#DeacsInSpain: Day 3, Monday March 7
On arguably the nicest weather day yet with temperatures in the mid-50s, Wake Forest started its day with a match against Atletico Madrid trialists at Estadio Matapinonera just outside of the center of Madrid. Playing their first game since December, the Deacs jumped out to a great start with two goals in the first 15 minutes by Jon Bakero. Wake Forest closed the 3-0 victory with a second-half own goal after Steven Echevarria sent a strong ball into a dangerous area that was misdeflected by a defender. Check out highlights and reaction from head coach Bobby Muuss below.
After recovering throughout the middle of the afternoon, the Demon Deacons then went on a tour of Madrid. During the tour, the team went everywhere from The Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and to the very center of Spain, among many other places.
Coming Up Next: Tuesday March 8, 2016
