KANNAPOLIS, N.C – The Wake Forest men's golf team captured its fourth title of the 2015-16 season by winning the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate as play concluded Sunday at The Club at Irish Creek. The Demon Deacons shot 3-over during Sunday's final round to overtake Kennesaw State, the 36-hole leader, and win the tournament by four strokes.
The championship is the first of the spring schedule for Wake Forest, which won three titles during the fall schedule. The four titles are the most in a season for the Demon Deacons since they won four times in 2002-03.
"The Demon Deacons had a nice finish on the last few holes to secure this victory," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It was a nice win as we head into the ACC Championship in a few weeks. I'm happy for this team to be able to get a fourth win this season."
Will Zalatoris was Wake Forest's top individual finisher, tying for second at 3-under after an even par round of 71 on Sunday. He was joined in the top 10 by Davis Womble, who finished ninth at even par, shooting 71 for the third consecutive round.
Kyle Sterbinsky was T-16th at 4-over after a final round of 73. Paul McBride and Cameron Young were T-24th at 6-over for the tournament.
The Demon Deacons will return to action Apr. 22-24 for the ACC Championship, held at the Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, N.C.
