McBride Leads After Round One of ACC Championship

UWHARRIE POINT, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team opened play Friday at the 2016 ACC Championship at the Old North State Club. Paul McBride shot a 6-under 66 to take the individual lead as the Demon Deacons are in second place as a team at 11-under.
Wake Forest trails first round leader Clemson by four shots and are 10 shots ahead of a five-way tie for third place.
"We had a good team effort today," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It was a solid start to a very tough week. We have been a very resilient all year and today was no exception."
McBride made seven birdies during his first round 66 and holds the individual lead by one shot. Two other Demon Deacons are also in the individual top 10. Davis Womble is in fourth place after a 4-under round of 68. Will Zalatoris is T-8th after shooting a 2-under 70.
Kyle Sterbinsky rounded out the scoring four for the Demon Deacons with a 1-over round of 73. Cameron Young completed the Wake Forest lineup, shooting an 83.
The tournament continues Saturday at the Old North State Club. There will be live coverage on ESPN3 beginning at 3 p.m.
