LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The seventh-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team closed out its 2016 regular season with a 6-1 win over Louisville on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons will go into the postseason with an overall record of 26-5. They finished 10-2 in ACC play, setting a program record for conference victories.
No. 76-ranked Petros Chrysochos and Jon Ho got the day started for the Deacons with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. No. 14 Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim secured the doubles competition by defeating George Hedley and Alex Gornet, 6-3, at the top position.
The Deacs controlled play in singles, increasing their cushion to 3-0 with straight-set wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. Romain Bogaerts dispatched Brandon Lancaster, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 to make it 2-0 and Seraphim denied a Sean Donohue rally in the first set before going on to win, 6-4, 6-2, to bring Wake Forest a point away from victory.
Chrysochos sealed the victory at No. 2. After becoming the first Deacon to win his opening set, he fell, 6-1, in his second set before closing out Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff in a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 triumph. The victory was the 12th in a row for Chrysochos. The rookie is now 20-2 on the spring, including 17-0 at No. 2, 10-0 against ACC foes and 8-0 against ranked opponents.
With the team result no longer in question, Mansouri halted a three-match singles losing skid by upending Alex Gornet, 7-5, 6-3, at the top position. He improved to 10-5 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
After Jeffrey Brown got the Cardinals on the board with a three-set win at No. 3, Dennis Uspensky earned the Demon Deacons' sixth team point with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win at No. 5. Uspensky's victory was his team-leading 23rd of the dual-match season.
Wake Forest has now won its last five matches against Louisville.
The Demon Deacons will be the second seed in next week's ACC Tournament. They will open the event at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of a first-round matchup between the seventh seed and the 10th seed.
