Wake Forest Heads to the ACC Tournament
After earning the tournament's second seed, seventh-ranked Wake Forest will kick off the ACC Championships in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
The Demon Deacons will play the winner of Thursday's match between seventh-seeded Notre Dame and No. 10-seeded Duke.
Last year, the Deacs reached the ACC championship match for the sixth time in school history, but were denied their first conference tournament title with a 4-2 loss to Virginia.
Last Time Out
Last week, the Demon Deacons finished their regular season with a 5-2 loss at No. 1 Virginia and a 6-1 win at Louisville.
Rookies Petros Chrysochos and Dennis Uspensky were both 2-0 in singles on the week.
Regular-Season Highlights
Wake Forest set school records with 26 wins overall and 10 wins in the ACC. The Deacs' second-place conference finish is their best since 1981.
The Demon Deacons went 5-2 against teams ranked sixth or higher. Entering the season, they had five wins over top-10 opponents since 2000.
Among the Deacs' notable wins were victories over top-ranked North Carolina and No. 2 Oklahoma. The two victories were the highest-ranked wins ever for the team. Both triumphs came on the road.
Wake Forest defeated Auburn and Tennessee at home on ITA Kick-Off Weekend to qualify for its first-ever ITA National Team Indoor Championships tournament. The Deacons went 2-1 at the event in Charlottesville, defeating both Oklahoma and USC, the tournament's finalists in 2015.
100-Win Club
Seniors Jon Ho and Romain Bogaerts became the sixth and seventh players in program history, respectively, to reach 100-career wins in singles.
Ho reached the milestone on March 20 against Clemson and has added victories over Miami and Duke since. Bogaerts reached the plateau on Senior Day last week against Duke, clinching the victory for the Deacs.
Looking to join a 100-win club of his own, fifth-year Demon Deacon head coach Tony Bresky enters the tournament with a 99-51 record at Wake Forest. Bresky's first recruiting class, this year's senior class, is the winningest in school history at 85-36.
Deacs in the Top 10
After a strong start to the season, the Deacons moved into the top 10 of the national rankings for the first time since 2007. Their No. 5 ranking held the weeks of Feb. 17 and Feb. 23 was the highest in program history. They are currently ranked seventh.
Wake Forest began the season with its highest preseason ranking in program history at No. 11 after making its third Sweet 16 appearance a year ago.
Deacs at the Davis Cup
Demon Deacon freshman Petros Chrysochos and sophomore Skander Mansouri both competed for their respective countries at the Davis Cup in mid-March.
Representing Cyprus, Chrysochos went 4-0 in singles to help his country advance from Europe Zone Group III to Europe Zone Group II.
Mansouri dropped his lone match for Tunisia, a five-set doubles contest.
