AWENDAW, S.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team opened play Sunday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Demon Deacons finished 4-under and are tied for third place after 18 holes.
"It was a windy day and although we weren't all that sharp, 4-under was a good start to the tournament," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Only four teams shot under par today. The key here is the par 5s and we only had seven birdies out of 25 chances on those holes."
Wake Forest was led by Davis Womble and Cameron Young, who are tied for seventh place at 2-under.
Will Zalatoris and Paul McBride each shot even par rounds of 72 and are T-23rd on the individual leaderboard. Lee Detmer was 3-over with a first-round 75.
The tournament runs through Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club.
