WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson put the Demon Deacons through their 12th spring practice session on Tuesday morning at McCreary Field House. As the spring season winds down, Clawson and the team are preparing for Saturday's annual Spring Game.

Slated for a 3 p.m. start at BB&T Field, the intrasquad scrimmage will feature Team Black vs. Team Gold. A team draft will be held Wednesday afternoon and the squads divided for the final scrimmage.

Admission to the Spring Game is free and open to the public. Fans will be allowed on the field following the scrimmage to meet the team and collect autographs. Photographs of the players will be allowed following the scrimmage but photos and video and photographs of the actual scrimmage is strictly prohibited.

Field gate No. 1 will open at 2 p.m. and parking in all lots is free. The West Side concourse will have multiple concession stands open. A Kids Zone will also be open behind the video board at BB&T Field.

Following Tuesday's practice, Clawson was asked about the progress of the offense during the spring and felt that while he has seen improvement, the offense is constantly challenged by the defense.

"We've been a top 40 defense the last two years here and we've played ones vs. ones (in practice)" said Clawson. "So everyday our offense goes against one of the better defenses in the country. The improvements that we make in practice are real intangible because they're going against a good defense.

"I'm seeing it in steps," Clawson continued. "We're clearly running the football better. The running game has become more consistent. We've eliminated a lot (lost yardage plays) in the run game. What's hard to judge is the passing game, in part because of the number of people we're missing. Between Cortez (Lewis), Cam Serigne, Jared Crump and not having Tabari (Hines) out here the first 10 practices, those might be three or four of the starting positions. The good news is that guys like Scotty Washington and Steven Claude have been getting a ton of reps and they are improving but they shouldn't be where those other guys are because those other guys have been in the program for a couple of years."
