Wake Forest Hosts Duke on Senior Day
Entering the week with a 24-4 record including an 8-1 mark in the ACC, No. 6-ranked Wake Forest concludes its regular-season home schedule on Saturday against Duke.
The Deacs will celebrate their five seniors: Romain Bogaerts, Jon Ho, Anthony Delcore Sam Bloom and Brendan Henry. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest dropped five of six first sets in singles at both No. 45 Virginia Tech and top-ranked North Carolina last week, but won both matches by 4-3 scores. They have now tied a program record with 24 wins on the season.
The win over the Tar Heels was the Deacs' first-ever over a No. 1 team. They are 5-1 against teams in the top 10 this season. The triumph extended their win streak to 11 matches and snapped UNC's 38-match home win streak.
Mansouri Moves Up
Skander Mansouri has had a strong start to the spring, going 15-3 in singles, including 10-3 at No. 1, 4-0 at No. 2 and 8-2 against ranked opponents.
The sophomore has won the ACC Player of the Week three times and now has the highest singles ranking of his career at No. 13.
Paired with Christian Seraphim, Mansouri is also No. 10 in doubles. The duo is 12-7 at the No. 1 position with six wins against ranked tandems.
Also ranked in singles for the Deacons is Petros Chrysochos, who checks in at No. 24 after a 17-2 start, and Romain Bogaerts, who jumped back into the rankings this week at No. 118. Bogaerts and Maksim Kan have not played together in the spring, but are ranked 60th in doubles, while Chrysochos and Jon Ho are 51st.
100-Win Club
Senior Jon Ho's singles win against Clemson was the 100th of his career. He enters this week with 101 wins after adding a victory at Miami.
Ho became the sixth Deacon all-time to reach the milestone. Senior Romain Bogaerts is the next-closest current player to that mark, currently sitting at 99-career victories.
Deacs in the Top 10
After a strong start to the season, the Deacons moved into the top 10 of the national rankings for the first time since 2007. Their No. 5 ranking held the weeks of Feb. 17 and Feb. 23 was their highest in program history. They are currently ranked sixth.
Wake Forest began the season with its highest preseason ranking in program history at No. 11 after making its third Sweet 16 appearance a year ago.
Deacs at the Davis Cup
Demon Deacon freshman Petros Chrysochos and sophomore Skander Mansouri both competed for their respective countries at the Davis Cup in mid-March.
Representing Cyprus, Chrysochos went 4-0 in singles to help his country advance from Europe Zone Group III to Europe Zone Group II.
Mansouri dropped his lone match for Tunisia, a five-set doubles contest.
