WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer is set to be one of eight teams from the state of North Carolina participating in the Kirk Urso Memorial Match on Saturday, April 9, throughout the day at Greensboro's Bryan Park.
In the third game of the day, Wake Forest will take on Elon at 5 p.m. at MacPherson Stadium. Tickets to the Kirk Urso Memorial Match are priced at $5. The admission price allows fans to watch all four games throughout the day, starting with High Point against Appalachian State at 12 p.m., followed by UNCG against Campbell at 2:30 p.m. The final match features ACC-foe North Carolina matching up against Charlotte at 7:30 p.m.
A portion of all ticket sales, donations, merchandise sales, raffle and silent auction proceeds will go directly to the Columbus Crew SC Foundation's Kirk Urso Memorial Fund.
A 2012 UNC graduate, Urso was a captain for the Tar Heels and helped North Carolina to the 2011 national title. He was selected by the Columbus Crew in the first round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. After appearing in six games for the Crew in 2012 before being sidelined by an injury, Urso passed away suddenly at the age of 22 from an Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy on August 5, 2012.
In partnership with The Children's Heart Foundation, the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund sponsors an annual grant focused on the prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of cardiac heart defects and sudden cardiac death in youth.
Following Saturday's contest against Elon, the Demon Deacons will return home for one more spring game on Saturday, April 16. The match is the culmination of Springfest, which features a game against VCU at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
Events at Springfest include an auction with Wake Forest jerseys and jerseys of former Demon Deacons now playing in the pros, a free clinic on April 15 and the chance to mingle with current Wake Forest players prior to the game against the Rams.
