WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 6 Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated 60th-ranked Duke, 6-1, on Saturday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The Demon Deacons honored their five seniors, Romain Bogaerts, Jon Ho, Anthony Delcore, Sam Bloom and Brendan Henry, prior to their final regular-season home match of the year.
The victory gave the Deacs a 25-4 record on the year, setting a program record for wins in single season. They also improved to 9-1 in the ACC, tying last year's squad for the most conference triumphs in team history.
Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim gave the Deacons a fast start in doubles. The No. 10-ranked tandem in the country cruised to a 6-1 win over Jason Lapidus and Daniel McCall at the No. 1 doubles position.
Bogaerts and Dennis Uspensky made it 1-0, Wake Forest, with a 6-2 win at the third spot.
In singles, the No. 24-ranked Petros Chrysochos improved to 15-0 at the No. 2 singles position by downing Vincent Lin, 6-2, 6-2.
Seraphim increased the hosts' lead to 3-0 by defeating McCall, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5. The redshirt sophomore has won 12-straight matches and now has 32 wins in 2015-16, tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
Duke got on the board and looked to rally when No. 26-ranked Nicolas Alvarez won at No. 1, but No. 118-ranked Bogaerts removed all doubt from the match's outcome by closing out Josh Levine, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4. The victory was the 100th in singles in Bogaerts' collegiate career. He became the seventh Deacon to reach that milestone.
To make it 5-1, Uspensky pulled out a three-set win at No. 6. Ho capped the scoring by running away with a 10-3 match tiebreaker victory at No. 3 over TJ Pura.
The Demon Deacons' senior class now has an overall record of 84-35 in their four years at Wake Forest, including 57-12 in Winston-Salem. The class is the winningest in the history of the program.
The Deacons conclude their regular season next week with a pair of ACC road matches. They will play No. 3 Virginia on Friday and Louisville on Sunday.
