TEMPE, Ariz. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team finished the season ranked No. 8, a program best, in the last edition 2015-16 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, released last week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, five Demon Deacon individuals were included in the final singles and doubles rankings, which were unveiled on Wednesday.
All-Americans Skander Mansouri and Petros Chrysochos ended the year No. 14 and 18 in singles, respectively. In doubles, the All-American duo of Mansouri and Christian Seraphim was slotted at No. 9, while Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan were 55th.
Mansouri, the third Demon Deacon to ever achieve All-American status in singles and doubles in the same season, finished his sophomore year 33-11 in singles, including 17-10 against ranked competition. His 33 singles wins rank him fifth in a single season in school history. The Deacs' MVP was a First Team All-ACC selection and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championships.
Chrysochos, the ACC Freshman of the Year and ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year, finished his freshman campaign with a 26-5 singles mark that included a 13-2 record against ranked opponents. He became the second Deacon to make it to the NCAA Singles quarterfinal round. At No. 18, he was the nation's highest-ranked rookie this year.
As a doubles pairing, Mansouri and Seraphim matched their highest ranking as a pair at No. 9. The tandem went 24-14 in 2015-16 with 12 wins against ranked teams, including five victories against top-15 pairings. They became the school's sixth-ever All-American duo reaching the third round of the NCAA Doubles Championships.
The NCAA Doubles appearance was the second for Mansouri and Seraphim, matching a school record. They reached the round of 16 last year before this year's quarterfinal run. In two seasons, they are 45-23 together with 21 ranked victories.
Bogaerts and Kan did not compete together in 2016, but had a strong fall season, going 9-3.
The Deacs' program-best final ranking of No 8 comes after the team entered the season with its highest-ever preseason ranking at No. 11. Wake Forest, which climbed as high as No. 5 nationally for the first time ever during the season, made its fourth appearance in the NCAA round of 16.
The Demon Deacons set a program record for wins by going 31-6 and won their first-ever ACC title with a thrilling 4-3 championship win over nine-time defending champion and eventual 2016 NCAA champion Virginia.
